– having a gender preference is not the same as having a racial preference. if you change words in a sentence, the meaning of the sentence changes! wow!
– if I say I am into men, that includes cis, trans, and nonbinary men. that is not homogenizing (unless you’re transphobic, but that’s another post). “I can’t date black people because of their ashy skin tone” is assuming that all black people have the same skin tone, and disregarding all of our vast differences because of the One Skin Tone black people apparently have. that’s homogenizing
– “I like asian guys” asia is a huge continent with so many ethnic groups that having a specific idea of what “asian” looks like is racist in a multitude of ways. i’m sure you’re going to count off the groups you know aka china, korea, and japan which is exactly what i’m talking about so just quit now
– “I’ve dated x men before and I just don’t like them” you haven’t dated, nor will you ever be able to date, so many members of a race that it’s a computable fraction of that race. the fact that you white girls date one black guy and think you know them is laughable, it’s racist, and there’s no logic in it whatsoever
– from skin tone to hair texture to eye color, any physical attribute you credit to why you can’t date an entire race assumes that every member of that race has those attributes, which just isn’t true but you don’t care because you’re racist
– “what about poc who don’t date white people?” becky, that’s not a preference that’s a survival tactic
what white people think racism is: when you mean to someone because of their race
what racism really is: social and legal systems that puts a race beneath another, vilifying them, fetishizing them, sexualizing them, and creates a usually negative bias towards that group.
where childhood is not an option when you’re the villain or where you are always seen at a child’s level no matter your age
where you are always responsible if someone else says/does something racist towards you, because existing invites aggression somehow
where you do not fit beauty standards, because beauty is afforded to the human, and your conditioned low self-esteem lets you know that
where you’re either synonymous with violence, stupidity, or infantilization, because you cannot make your own choices that aren’t irrational.
where your feelings are routinely invalidated and your daily life experiences are not enough evidence and cannot be trusted, because you’re a suspicious character whose humanity is always on trial. so you do not get to define universally what racism is
where you do not get feel anything besides rational at all times, to be carefree or upset or angry without it being a stereotype of you overreacting to everything
where if you fit into a stereotype it could mean your death and the rest of your race tries to put you down as a self-elevating technique, because they have internalized the lie that when you deny your race and culture you become human. where fitting a stereotype means “see i knew they where all like this”
where if you don’t fit into a stereotype you are not your race and culture, because people have such narrow views of what you’re supposed to be that you cannot possibly exist and be your race at the same time, so people of every race take away yours. Oreo. Banana. Coconut. Apple.
where you will legally get more time for the same crimes
where you will socially be demonized more for the same crimes
where when you quell the crimes keeping your race down, there are always more that’s made up to keep you in your place (The War on Drugs =_=)
where you get paid less for the same work
where you get hired less with the same qualifications
where having a culturally-coded name that’s not acceptable, like Ibrahim, Jose, or Unique can stop you from getting a job
where there are so many things in place to keep you impoverished and uneducated but it’s still your fault if you don’t have the strength and good luck to defy the lack of social mobility and create your own
where entire countries whose cultures and economies have been destroyed are trying to restart alone and the people that destroyed them blame the country for its own destruction
where the farther your features are from your race the more beautiful you’re considered
where your rank in social hierarchy changes how people treat you the more they find out about your identity, and the more marginalized you are by coming out of the closet or not being christian or not being able-bodied and neurotypical the worse you get racism, because you are a bigger target for various acts of violence and microaggressions
where you get used to microagressions before you hit double digits
where your most recent experience with a microaggression was probably yesterday if the day just started
where you idea of a microaggression is the white summation of racism
where your family teaches you how to assimilate to white culture to try and protect you from all of the above
where your death is an opportunity to blame you for it and demonize you in your grave

white ppl think it’s really funny to tell you you aren’t black because they have this idea of what blackness is in their heads and like somehow your experiences negate you from subscribing to their understanding of blackness. think about the kind of privilege you need to have in order to think you have the authority to NEGATE SOMEONES RACE AND ARBITRARILY EXCLUDE THEM FROM THEIR OWN GROUP just cause you say so!!! happens with latinx too… while I understand my privilege as a light skinned latina my culture has been white washed my whole life and now I have to rediscover it for myself and I have had people have say shit like “but you aren’t really latina” or “yeah but you don’t seem hispanic though so its ok” cause I don’t fit some stereotype :/ My mums awful white family made my dad ashamed of his heritage so much that he didn’t teach his kids much spanish, even changed his name to Alex for like 20 years cause they were uncomfortable saying Alejandro, never was allowed to speak spanish around them, was told to wait in the car instead of coming into the house because he wasn’t welcome, constantly sent emails by them telling him to go ‘back to his country’, was verbally abused constantly ….the white part of my family systematically destroyed his sense of cultural identity which then in turn excluded me from my heritage. So thats why I don’t find it funny when white people negate my ethnicity… if I don’t seem Latina enough for your stereotype, just remember that it was white people who did that to me. They’re Imperialistic even on a personal level … fuck

The fact is, Rihanna doesn’t get dubbed as a feminist icon for the very same reasons her white peers do: the black female body is deemed as overtly sexual. So much so Miley Cyrus can derive a sexual identity just by associating with Blackness and Lily Allen can make a critique of hyper sexuality on our backs. Rihanna being Black and female must work from proving she isn’t just a sex object. Miley gets to be naked and feminist because it is presumed that she is “innocent” and that enjoying sex—for White women like her—isn’t the norm, but a revolutionary act. This was the justification for the rape of Black women, the very reason Saartjie Baartman’s genitals were carved from her body, to prove our inherently sexual nature and to prove the White woman’s asexual (and therefore, pure) one. When pop stars are declared to be shining examples of feminism while continuing a legacy of shaming and sexualizing black bodies, mainstream feminism is sending a clear message: we still ain’t women.
