i just came to the conclusion that having a shitty father is such a universal experience bc society lets men be shitty and go unchecked for so long that by the time they have kids they dont know how to be a decent person or care about how anything affects anybody but themselves

I can only speak for my experience, but that is pretty much on point. A lot of people don’t understand the distinct difference between a father simply being present and father actually, you know, fathering. I had to explain this to quite a few people who come from homes with married parents. You can argue up and down about your dad being there and paying bills, but how often did he participate in actually rearing you? In raising you, teaching you, guiding you?

And how men especially joke about a girl having daddy issues like its her fault she has them
