“The Jon Stewart video is cool and all…but it’s amazing that he can say the most basic things about race in America and get trumpeted like a forward-thinking white guy everyone should listen to. He basically said “a racist person killed black people and racism is alive.” I mean, obviously.

Is the bar set THAT low for White people to support Black Lives? And why aren’t our sentiments shared like his when we’re yelling the same sh*t from every mountaintop in the country?” [via]

truly, I’ve also been thinking about the way that power/white supremacy raises the volume on white voices, so to speak; Jon Stewart, in the wake of nat’l tragedy, has time and time again become “the voice” or the leader of the forward-thinking discourse. But that’s so concerning when black thinkers are saying things that are the same or more truthful or effective. It’s a racist dynamic that governs the digitized visual and auditory media landscape.
