let me create a safe space for people of color who are hurt by the exclusionary feminism that only focuses on things like giving white women equal pay to white men, and #freethenipple. let me create a safe space where intersectionality is more than just this concept of ultimate sainthood, but a lived-in identity, a waiting room for people who have been asking for waves and decades and generations to be acknowledged. let me create a safe space where we’re not afraid to explain the complexities of navigating queer spaces and non-white spaces and getting what we can from both to feel at home. let me create a safe space where this can be home.

Gaycation – “USA”

I read an article (I wanna say from Harlot, don’t think it was Jezebel) about how tone deaf this show is, and I just don’t agree. Sure Ellen Page and her friend are both conventionally attractive cis white people, but I noticed throughout several episodes that they REALLY focus on giving camera time to the most marginalized groups– trans POCs, sex workers, etc–and do not speak for or over them. It is a terribly depressing show but I think they are doing it very well, and I’m very glad it exists.
