g*psy is a racial slur

Standard

misdiagnosed-ghost:

g*psy is not a synonym for boho, hippie, fashionable, interesting, wanderlust, or anything else in that vein.

It is a RACIAL. SLUR. If you are not Rromani, do NOT use it. It’s really that simple. We travel because we are forced to. Not because we want to. Many live in forced poverty. If you are not a member of our race, STOP USING A SLUR THAT IS DIRECTED AT US.

“The Jon Stewart video is cool and all…but it’s amazing that he can say the most basic things about race in America and get trumpeted like a forward-thinking white guy everyone should listen to. He basically said “a racist person killed black people and racism is alive.” I mean, obviously.

Is the bar set THAT low for White people to support Black Lives? And why aren’t our sentiments shared like his when we’re yelling the same sh*t from every mountaintop in the country?” [via]

truly, I’ve also been thinking about the way that power/white supremacy raises the volume on white voices, so to speak; Jon Stewart, in the wake of nat’l tragedy, has time and time again become “the voice” or the leader of the forward-thinking discourse. But that’s so concerning when black thinkers are saying things that are the same or more truthful or effective. It’s a racist dynamic that governs the digitized visual and auditory media landscape.
