never show deference to the white gaze. and if you catch yourself having to do so in order to maintain your livelihood, make sure you do what you need to do to get out of that environment permanently. 

remember racism and racial antagonism loses its power as soon as you are no longer dependent nor reliant upon its economies and you can defend your structures of independence.
