I’ve got a date on Tuesday with a guy who was able to engage me in a long, intelligent text conversation about books. Good books. Actual books. Books written for freaking adults. And Golden Girls. And working out without sounding like a meathead. And he sweetly asked before sending me a picture of his abs because he didn’t want to impose.

Is it Tuesday yet?

(So happy I saved this gif in my drafts. Clearly wishful thinking pays off.)

So, Craftsmate has kind of gotten me into taking on different roles in the bedroom, which is not something I’m too terribly experienced in. But, I’ve been mostly receptive and found that a lot of it has actually turned me on. Which is the preface you need for this conversation:

Me: Hey can we do a sexy bedroom roleplay where you’re [Professor I Have An Academic Crush On]?

Me: Please.

Me: It would mean a lot to me.

Craftsmate: …

Me: So my [Academic Crush] fantasy is that I like come to your office hours.

Craftsmate: …

Me: And you’re like oh I think I need a research assistant to like read books or whatever.

Me: And I’m like oh I can read books.

Me: And you’re like great wonderful but then I like totally fuck up reading books somehow.

Me: And you’re like come here and let me spank you I am [Academic Crush].

Me: And I’m just like oh god okay, [Academic Crush].

Craftsmate: …

In other news, I have the lamest sexual fantasies ever.

Books are finite, sexual encounters are finite, but the desire to read and to fuck is infinite; it surpasses our own deaths, our fears, our hopes for peace.“ – Roberto Bolaño.

Sorry, I just need to interrupt the sexy to say:

Yes. It is okay. It is so okay. It is so very, very okay. What’s not okay is banning a freaking book.

Works like CandideAnimal Farm and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy were some of my favorites in high school and, with the exception of the last title, were parts of the curriculum of courses I took.

So, rock on, kiddo. Because no library should be illegal.

So, followers. I’m aware of this tendency I have to begin describing a part of my life, conflict, etc and then being too lazy to continue it or describe the resolution. So, ah, I’d like to get around to that sometime.

My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage.” – Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic.

I’ll admit part of me swooned when you referenced Mauss. But part of me almost felt violated.

I sometimes feel too well-known when people read the same books as I. I feel like they have a part of me that way and I, by extension, have a part of them by knowing what they’ve read. I start to associate them with the work. They become part of it

It’s not the same with movies. There’s just something about books.

But that’s the very spirit of the gift, isn’t it? You give me part of yourself and I’m indebted. I give you some of me and you’re in my debt. And you know how I feel about power exchanges.

It’s funny to remember you as you were before you existed, subtle visitor. You know how I’ve suffered getting accustomed to you.
