this hit me like a load of fucking bricks.

oh shit

This is so important.  It makes me think of a true Story about one of the most memorable customers I’ve ever had:

When I came by the table and asked if they had any questions, one of the men looked at me and said “I have a question”.

“I have an answer!” My typical response.

He gave me a smug sort of smile and said “Oh really?  Well, I appreciate you.  I appreciate your help, I appreciate your attitude, I appreciate your hard work.  What I want to know is, what do you appreciate about yourself?”

I was completely stumped, and I’m sure that showed on my face.  He asked if I wanted to think about it for a few minutes and then come back and give him an answer.  I thought about it a lot, and when I went back a few minutes later to take their order I still hadn’t come up with anything.

He responded, “Well that’s ok, but I want you to think about something for me.  I’m a total stranger who’s known you for 10 minutes, and I appreciate you more than you appreciate yourself.”

toxicwraith:

i don’t know what happened, but leelah’s tumblr has been removed. it used to be at lazerprincess.tumblr.com and currently is no longer there.

i have preserved what was still open in my browser on my site here:

http://goaskmalice.net/leelah/index.html

it’s bad enough leelah’s so-called “parents” forced her into silence when she was alive. i don’t think she should also be silenced in death.

please reblog this so people can still read leelah’s own words.

Though Mean Girls was rated PG-13 for “sexual content, language, and some teen partying,” that was a rating Paramount had to fight for, says Waters. “We had lots of battles with the ratings board on the movie. There was the line, ‘Amber D’Lessio gave a blow job to a hot dog,’ which eventually became ‘Amber D’Lessio made out with a hot dog.’ Which is somehow weirder! That’s the thing we found: When you’re trying to make a joke obey the rules and not use any bad words, it can actually become seamier, even.” Still, there were some things that Waters simply refused to change. “The line in the sand that I drew was the joke about the wide-set vagina. The ratings board said, ‘We can’t give you a PG-13 unless you cut that line.’ We ended up playing the card that the ratings board was sexist, because Anchorman had just come out, and Ron Burgundy had an erection in one scene, and that was PG-13. We told them, ‘You’re only saying this because it’s a girl, and she’s talking about a part of her anatomy. There’s no sexual context whatsoever, and to say this is restrictive to an audience of girls is demeaning to all women.’ And they eventually had to back down.”

DEBI JACKSON, MOTHER OF TRANSGENDER CHILD, GIVES MOVING SPEECH

The best part of the video may be when Jackson addresses the comments she’s heard about her daughter and sets the record straight about statements like you “wanted a girl so you turned your child into one” and “kids have no idea what they want or who they are — my kids wants to be a dog, should I let him?”

So watch the full video to see her answers to those difficult questions here.

Chills down my whole body. This is how parents should react.

If Leelah Alcorn’s mother made you lose faith, then watch this video. I literally cried tears of happiness for the daughter of this wonderful woman.

“there is a difference between pretending to be something in imaginary play, and declaring who you are – insistently, consistently, and persistently."

I think this speech is also important because time after time you see people saying that a person is too young to know or understand or make a “choice” like that. But people on average have a concept of their gender by age 2.
